Meet the Flockers

Originally uploaded by kk+.

Just found some interesting and cryptic news on a new Firefox based browser that will get web 2.0 closer to the end user.

I am talking about Flock. What is in short:

Flock is a new browser, built on top of firefox. It is a functional browser with excellent features (including firefox features like tabbed browsing, etc.). What really makes is stand out are two additional features they’ve added to build social networking directly into the browsing experience: social bookmarking and a wysiwyg blog writing tool.

More details on this here

There is also a screenshot…but a litlle one.

I have applied and asked for an invitation to the beta program and now I am anxiously waiting :)

EDIT: From Chris Messina I got the great news that Flock will support Firefox extensions. One step ahead Netscape. Great job guys

Writely

Writely is a new Ajax web application that worth mentioning.

In their own words here is what it does (in short)

First, you create a document:

  • Either by typing it in, or by uploading a Word document, html, text or image file.
  • Use our editor to format the text, add tables, images, etc.

2.Next, you share it with others:

  • Enter people’s e-mail addresses to grant them access to the document.
  • Send them a message from Writely to tell them about it.

3. Then, you can edit it together online:

  • If another person starts editing the same document, a small notice will appear.
  • Your changes will be automatically sync’d with theirs every few seconds.
  • Nicest part? You can upload and edit Microsoft Office documents without installing anything on your hard disk.
