Fair play

Friday, May 13th, 2005 |

For quite a long time I have noticed on Yahoo Blog a link to Google’s Official Blog. I thought it was quite a nice thing to do and a rare thing in this business where links have the value they have.

Now is Google’s time to make their step.

Congratulations. Better later than never

Edit

That’s fun they even listed Jeremy’s blog :) I like the guy for his unconventional style to write bout Google’s mistakes

Google Patent Analysis

Wednesday, May 11th, 2005 |

Just finished reading a …nice analysis of Google’s new patent from Search Engine Journal.

There are some valid points and some gibberish. When I reached the end of the article I was curious who wrote it. Ahem…would you trust opinions from a guy like that?

My favourite sin: Greed

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005 |

Search Engine Roundtable just announced that Google will offer impression-based pricing for Ad Words. That’s just another sign of Google’s greed. PPC fraud already is a problem and they want to create another one before solving the first. I don’t think that a normal person will buy this service. On the end publishers and advertisers are loosing money while Google encreases their revenues.

Blah…and once I loved Google

SEO Tip

Saturday, April 23rd, 2005 |

Rustybrick writes about a new occurrence at Google Web Search.
In short. When you do some queries with the the word “directories” included, you will have some additional results on top of the natural ones.

Since now the following have been spotted:

What all this results have in common beside being financial related? All have Tatet directories. With Tatet I have come across a year ago when doing a link building campaign. Their directory is shared with others just like DMOZ. Then I found out that an inclusion on Tattet leads too many other backlinks.

This could mean that Google is looking for other directories besides DMOZ too build up its index? Just an ideea. But I think that it won’t hurt to get an inclusion there ;)

Google Page Rank Update

Adi announced me that a Google PR update is running now.
I see it on a few sites of mine so I can confirm it.

Edit:
of course the PR update is doubled by a linkback update

Yahoo vs Google’s spellchecker

Tuesday, April 12th, 2005 |

Google fails again. If you use more than 1 keyword Google’s spellchecker gives you no results and no spelling suggestions, while Yahoo does a pretty good job.

Try for example:
Google: mambo cms show page totle
Yahoo: mambo cms show page totle

Indexability of Yahoo 360 (II)

Sunday, April 3rd, 2005 |

Saturday evening will be the time for the weekly analysis of Yahoo’s 360 indexability.

On the first post things weren’t so good but that was quite normal due to the fact that was immediately after launch. What was curious then was the domination of MSN search in the number of the indexed pages.

Let’s see scores for today:

Google: 3860 pages

Yahoo: 9370 pages (WOW)

MSN: 130 pages

What is interesting today is the clear supremacy of Yahoo over Google. In a previous post I was dissapointed of Yahoo on not indexing properly their services. In a way is logical to do that. Who wants to search within their profiles should use their search. But that’s not a reason enough though. Now they learnt something and even better they applied it.

Now. What those number tell us:

1. Already there is a large number of active users
2. 360 is findable and in the next period we will see it more on results
3. Being visible, quality content will get feedback and will motivate the users on being active

Edit: While writing this post I was thinking when this serial analysis will stop. Well 2 Kents later (damn there is no Kent page…makes u wonder) I figured it out. I will stop it when the number will be double than those:

Google: 8.110.000
Yahoo: 35,700,000 (hey I wasn’t expecting this one. Are they taking steroids or something else???)
MSN: 26,657 (yeah yeah great job Microsoft. Hope that Longhorn will not be as “good”)

Anybody feeling lucky to figure out what I am speaking about?
