Content is King No More: Web 2.0 is About Interaction

The change is obvious but not so necessary good. I mean I like using a few
social systems like Last.Fm or 360 but this doesn't mean that I'll use also Hi5,
Friendster or Orkut. And maybe my friends that are using the last ones feel the same about change.
What happens then? I'll make an account that I will soon forget about and by this I'll add
only more junk to the internet.
Fortunately this will be decided by the market and only the
large networks will survive. Other small networks that bring something
good to
the user will be later incorporated into the bg ones (See the case of Flickr)

"(...) the thing that is most glaring and poignant to me is the seismic shift in importance from a focus on content and information to behavior and interaction." (Dirk Knemeyer) - Like interacting with other humans, a combination of structure ('parts and wholes'), content ('thoughts'), and form ('behaviour') is what makes a digital environment 'tick'.

Paper: The Structure of Collaborative Tagging Systems

A must read for everyone that plans to develop a web application that involves the use of tags

Here's a good paper from HP Labs that analyzes tagging patterns on del.icio.us: The Structure of Collaborative Tagging Systems (PDF). Lots of interesting stuff on tagging behaviour, frequency, semantics and categories.

Top Ten Web Design Mistakes of 2005

Worth having it on your desktop as a checklist. Apparently there are still big
mistakes even on new websites

"The oldies continue to be goodies - or rather, baddies - in the list of design stupidities that irked users the most in 2005." (Jakob Nielsen - Alertbox)

The Design Encyclopedia

Looks like a great resource for beginners and advanced

"The design encyclopedia is a wiki, which means that any registered user can add, delete or change any of the information on the encyclopedia. (...) The purpose of the design encyclopedia is to build a resource where anything and everything is explained through its design implications and background." (UnderConstruction) - courtesy of antenna
