netvibes.com

I always thought that doing a copy of a popular service is the most lame thing. That I thought untill I found Netvibes. At first look is looks like a copycat of Start

Looking closer you’ll have a surprise. Is true that they used Start.com as a starting point :) but they moved the ideea a few steps in advance.

From Techcrunch review:

The project itself looks pretty good: modules are intuitive and the page interaction’s easy to catch up on with just a few seconds. There are a few other things on the slate too, apparently, like modules for Flickr, feed searching, bookmarks, etc (a proper list is available on their blog). All in all, while it is another solution for a problem that many people are tackling, Netvibes looks like a pretty good Ajax-based homepage, so you should definitely check it out and take your conclusions.

From Netvibes’s roadmap

  • create more localized versions
  • se localized informations feeds for each languages and countries.
  • add more applications that use RSS (like flickr,…)
  • check integration, synergy with other web 2.0 applications
  • opera, safari, mobile integration
  • integrate collaborative features between registered users
